Jitendra Awhad: State Govt stands with Railway slum dwellers
Housing Minister Dr Jitendra Awhad informed that the State Govt stands with Railway slum dwellers. Rehabilitation has to be done as per State Govt guidelines. Railway and State Govt bureaucrats met at the official residence of Housing Minister at Shivgad.
Dr Jitendra Awhad directed the Railways to communicate with Central Govt saying the Stae SRA schemes are on since 1995. As per State Government Guidelines in 2018, slums till 2011 are protected. The Railways cannot dispossess the slum dwellers who have being staying since or existed as on 2011 which is the cut of date.
Dr Awhad further clarified that State Govt is determined about providing rehab to slum dwellers and the Central Govt has to provide the tenements. The State Govt cannot be held accountable for the negligence of the Railways. The Centre can utilise any of its schemes either Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana or any other scheme. Railways are sending eviction notice based on Supreme Court order.
The State Govt has filed affidavit in the Supreme Court highlighting the Railway Slum dwellers issue. Among those who attended the meeting are Secretary- Urban Development-Mr Bhushan Gagrani, Principle Secretary Housing Milind Mhaiskar, and Railway officials Rajiv Mishra, Amit Gupta and Avinash Sharma
