Choreographer Farah Khan’s directorial “Om Shanti Om” clocks 15 years
Ace Choreographer-turned filmmaker Farah Khan’s
“Om Shanti Om” clocked 15 years on 9 November, 2022.
Notably, Farah Khan has choreographed many mindblowing dances on supreme actors.
It’s been 15 years since Farah Khan scripted a love story for “Om Shanti Om”
Talking to media personnel,She says she feels proud for the film’s successful journey, but, very much disturbed that the dialogues of the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone never got the credit they deserved.
It also hurts the Choreographer that Om Shanti Om made on a lavish scale should have been honoured with every award for its dialogues, ironically it never happened. Farah makes it known that all the dialogues from the film have become cult
while looking back at the making of the story which came with reincarnation twist in a filmy way.
She adds People till now use the film’s iconic dialogues in everyday life, be it
‘Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’ or ‘Itni Shiddat’ or
‘Ek chutki sindoor’. For that matter even Veteran Ramesh Sippy Directorial “Sholay” never won an award for dialogues despite of the fact the film had power-packed dialogues.
The film is special for Farah for many reasons. It was the launch vehicle for Deepika Padukone, she conceived her kids during the making of the film, the film won the clash war with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, with the filmmaker crediting the movie for starting the six-pack-ab chapter in Shah Rukh’s career.
She still feels like the film made it last year. It doesn’t feel like 15 years have gone by because our memories are so fresh.
One of the most important memories as per Farah Khan, was that it was Deepika’s launch where she was completely raw and new. Now, she is so confident, so poised and in command, whereas at that time she was like a lost lamb.
Looking back, Farah narrates an incident, sharing, when filming Dard-E-Disco, she used to throw up whenever SRK used to remove his shirt. It was for the first time Shah Rukh had a six-pack. Earlier he was never known for his body.
Now, in Pathaan, it seems he has 12 packs. Its really inspiring. There’s none like him”.
So and one of the most challenging part, you know, you talk about fond memories, but you know, there are also some challenges that you face. Now, what was the most challenging part when you look back at the movie?
Making the film was an easy task, but escaping preconceived notions on the plot she was exploring was tricky.
Apart from the story, music and box office numbers, the film is remembered for the assemble of stars for the cameos-Salman Khan, Rekha, Dharmendra, Tabu Vidya Balan, Shilpa Shetty etc., and pulling off such a coup is tough today says Farah.
Farah further reveals that amid the shoot of the film, every day, there were four or five people coming and nobody wanted to return, but preferred to stay back for the other person’s shot. She isnt sure if that kind of era can ever come back. It was a time when Bollywood was one. Everyone just came out of love. She doubts if that can happen again.
Meanwhile, the director admits she would have been on cloud nine had Aamir Khan too agreed to feature in a special section. Maybe we’ll save that for another day she signs off with a hope.
