On this day, 11 December, 2021 the thespian of Hindi Cinema bid adieu to immortality.
The day marks 100th Birth Anniversary. From the age gap of 22 years to being married for 54 years – eternal love story with Saira Banu. Dilip Kumar was known to generations of film-goers as ‘tragedy king’,

Sadly, both Dilip Kumar’s brothers Aslam Khan, and Ahsan Khan succumbed to Covid-19 pandemic.

The actor’s love life was as colourful as his onscreen persona. During the shoot for Tarana, he fell in love with the evergreen actress Madhubala. He dated her for over 9years.
It was the film ‘Sangdil’, another massive hit that emboldened the Dilip Kumar-Madhubala pairing in the eyes of the audience and film producers.

The actor’s relationship with Madhubala came to an end over personal issues between her and her father. Before that he also dated actress Kamini Kaushal.

And finally, in 1966, he married Saira Banu, who was 22 years younger than him.

Saira in an interview to a daily newspaper had confessed her love by saying, “She wasn’t just another girl smitten by Dilip Kumar. For her, it was no castle in the air because she had given her dream the strong foundation of faith- faith in herself and faith in God.”

Notably, the person behind Dilip and Saira, who brought them closer is Naseem Banu, Saira Banu’s mother, who played a role of cupid between Dilip and Saira. She brought them closer and their love blossomed in the air. Later, he proposed to her while she was shooting for “Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan”.

The Kohinoor of the Country, Dilip Kumar, however, in 1981 married Hyderabad socialite Asma Rehman whom he met at a Cricket Match and made her his second wife. This however ended in 1983.

He acted in over 65 films in his career and is known for his iconic roles in movies like “Devdas” (1955), “Naya Daur” (1957), “Ganga Jamuna” (1961), “Kranti” (1981), and “Karma” (1986). His last film was “Qila”, which was released in 1998.
