Earlier while the News was doing the rounds on the construction of the longest sea bridge in India, it is now nearing completion and authorities hope to throw it open it to the public by the end of 2023.

Reportedly, 90 percent of the MTHL is over and now the work of connector ramps and interchange loops to connect the main bridge to adjoining roads is in progress.

Notably, the interchange at Sewri consists of eight ramps, two ramps connecting Hajibandar road, four ramps connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to Eastern Expressway and ramps two ramps connecting Sewri-Worli connector. There are six ramps in Shivajinagar interchange for connecting CIDCO’s proposed coastal road.
Four ramps are planned at SH-54, which includes 2 + 2 lanes for connecting Navi Mumbai and JNPT to MTHL.

The Link will be connected to the National Highway by four ramps (Clover leafs) at NH-348. This place has four emergency lanes. This will help in transportation from Mumbai to Goa and Pune and also to JNPT Port.

The 21.8 km long cable-stayed, also called the Sewri–Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, is a 6-lane freeway-grade road bridge that connects Sewri on Mumbai Island with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city. Out of the total length, 16.5 km is through sea and about 5.5 km is on land.

The design and plan of the bridge the Rs 17,843 crore bridge is similar to the Hangzhou Bay Bridge in China (36 kms) and King Fahd Causeway in Saudi Arabia (26 km).
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is constructing the mega structure.

Meanwhile, in addition to easing traffic in the city, especially in South Mumbai, it also promises to facilitate the traffic from Mumbai to Pune and Goa.
