Urges to adopt US Certification style of film
In the backdrop of the controversy surrounding Shah Rukh Khan Deepika Padukone starrer “Pathaan”, veteran actor Shabana Azmi underlines the need to adopt the US style Film Certification System.
The veteran actor without mincing words affirms that the
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is not a Censorsbip Board. By Certifying a film for exbibition means classifying and not Censoring.
Notably, our country follows the Censorship style of UK. 30-odd people are handpicked by the Government from purportedly diverse walks of life to infer the dogmas of the country in accordance to the political apportion of that time. It’s no hidden secret that those people who are on the board have the predilection with the ruling party.
Therefore, by adopting to the US system the filmmakers and the artistes can decide whether they need a single cut or not and realising that age appropriate behaviour is of prime importance. If the film is certified for universal exhibition then they hold the rights to give voluntary cuts. One need to change as per time.
