Days following the release of the much talked and raved about docu-series ‘
‘The Romantics’, actor Rani Mukerji opened up on her late father-in-law, the prolific filmmaker Yash Chopra and how she had always wanted to be a part in his films.
Since her childhood, her favourite films and characters have always been those of Yash Chopra adding that the way the filmmaker portrayed women in his films was very dignified and beautiful.
Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela had a major influence on his stories and that she too helped the filmmaker shape up his female characters.
Going deep on the way Chopra represented women on screen, as per Rani his actresses were beautiful not just by their looks but also because of the persons they were on the inside.
In Yash Chopra’s films, the women always had an equal part or even slightly better part than the men. It speaks volumes about him as a filmmaker that he always listened to his heart rather than conforming to the norms! His immense respect for women always showed in the way he presented his heroines.
The best part of him was that he never carried the Yash Chopra” personality with him’
Rani, married to Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra, further shared that over the years, she grew even closer to her father-in-law, beyond their professional camaraderie.
The veteran filmmaker was down to earth, humble, jovial and so respectful! He had a great sense of humour! He was always the favourite person at any get-together or function.
He had this magnetic energy that always drew everyone towards him. He was full of life and always fun to be around.
On the work front, Rani gears up to star in ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’. Inspired by a true story, the film tells the tale of an immigrant Indian mother and her fight with the Norwegian foster care system to win back the custody of her children.
The film mark Rani’s return to the silver screens after her last film ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, released in 2021, and proved a debacle.
