Amol Palekar stages comeback with ‘Farzi’, ‘Gulmohar’
Hailed as middle class man actor and director Amol Palekar, the veteran of the 1970s has done it all, and shied away from the limelight, each single time.
He was an actor who worked hard and doesn’t forget to bring tuberoses for his betrothed every time he visits her. He distracted her first love, and yet fascinated by his flash and glib talk. Howeve, the fragrance of the flowers that permeates through the film, makes you believe that gentleness in life matters. That persistent, constant lover in Rajnigandha is Amol Palekar.
By nature shy, and self-effacing. He gets confused by the attention he’s getting from the village teacher Pitambar Chaudhary’s family, but he puts it down to the decency of village folk and repays them by teaching their daughter Geeta how to sing. Geeta who usually runs around wild, stealing mangoes with her little accomplice is tamed by music and falls in love with the shy lad. Turns out he’s not the engineer that her sister had match-made, but a junior overseer. The family wasted their attention! But all’s well that ends well. This shy guy, in Rajshri’s Chitchor is Amol Palekar.
With Farzi and Gulmohar featuring Sharmila Tagore and Bajpayee, Amol stages a comeback. Once bitten by acting bug no actor gives up acting which fetches name fame and wealth. Once a bank employee, he always wanted to shine as an actor be it in theatre or films and he made it to win recognition for his acting. His performances has won for him awards and rewards.
