Actor Renuka Shahane spills the beans on lack of sanitation for female actors on film sets

If one recollects, veteran actors Asha Parekh and Jaya Bachchan last year had come down heavily on the lack of sanitation facilities on film sets

Renuka has seen her hey days in1960s and 70s. But now the Hum Aapke Hai Koun fame shares on how the situation didn’t improve even in the 90s. As per Renuka female actors on the sets didn’t drink water the entire day as they never to use the common washrooms which were unclean.want

In a recent media interaction Renuka talked on how the film and television industry is not dominated by men these days but reminisced on the days when women had to even struggle for the basic facility of sanitation.

Renuka Shahane further added that women were expected not to voice on the poor working conditions but to ‘be professional’. She recalled when she was doing films in the 90s, there were no separate loos for women. That was not looked after, at all. They even hesitated to go to the loo since they were so dirty. All of them have gone through it, even Madhuri Dixit has gone through it. People just take it for granted..

Commenting on how the television industry has become better than before, Renuka affirms, “Television industry has at last become aware that there should be gender parity, pay parity. Situations at the workplace are much more sensitive to the need of women, which would never happened earlier.
