Veteran actor Bindu ruled the film industry for her undisputed role as vamp in Hindi films.

In a recent interview, she elaborated on her married life, miscarriages, and much more.

She was born to a conservative family in Gujarat and was the eldest among her 8 siblings. Her father, Nanubhai Desai, was a film producer, and her mother, Jyotsna was a renowned theatre actress. Bindu was always psssionate on the glamour world and it was her cherished dream to be an actor. But, her father went against it.

Bindu made her acting debut with Anpadh, and thereafter in Ittefaq and Do Raaste. With her charisma and charm, the actor rose to be known as the queen of the glam world.

For those not aware, Bindu had fallen in love with her neighbour, Champak Lal Zaveri at the young age of 15. The two got married when Bindu was just 18 years old. They had an age difference of five years and thus, they faced familial opposition. However, nothing could stop them from getting married. Moreover, Bindu had broken all the stereotypes and entered the film industry to reign as the iconic vamp of Hindi cinema.

Bindu opened up that it wasn’t comfortable to work after marriage but her husband respected her passion for acting and ever stopped or discouraged her from doing what she wanted.

When she was offered ‘Do Raaste’ with Rajesh Khanna husband said, ‘Kya zaroorat hai?’ Financially we are comfortable. He respected my desire for acting. At first, people didn’t know that she was married. She shares high regards for director Raj Khosla and on his film ‘Do Raaste’ as the best film of her life. She was hesitant to play the role. She feared abuses. The film didn’t receive a great response in the first week but the positive mouth publicity made it to a massive hit. Bindu revealed that her husband was never possessive towards her. However, he used to accompany her to the parties and get-togethers hosted by her costars or producers.

Bindu had always wished to be an artist and used to take part in school plays and her friends had suggested that she should try her luck in films.

Since was popular for portraying vamp roles in most of her films, the actor shared that her vamp image had spilt into her real life as well and revealed that women used to hide their husbands from her.

For the unversed, Bindu had returned to the silver screen in the ’80s with more mature roles in films like, Hero, Alag Alag, Biwi Ho To Aisi and Kishen Kanhaiya, and had re-established herself as the cruel mother-in-law and aunt.

Recently, Bindu graced Indian Idol 14 and evealed how college girls and boys used to gather around Rajesh Khanna in huge numbers

The 81-year-old actor and dancer had worked in about 13 films with the late Rajesh Khanna.
