Actor Shweta Menon duped in bank account fraud
Bank fraud is on the rise in Mumbai. Every altermate days a victim falls prey to the crime.
News come to light that In the last 72 hours 40 customers of a single private bank were duped of money running into few lakhs after they clicked on a fraudulent link. One of the victims among the 40 customers was Khar based out actor Shweta Menon.
The message read, ‘Dear customer your Bank ACCOUNT has Been Blocked Today Please Update your PAN CARD, https://rb.gy/x5tvws.’
Scamsters siphoned Rs57,600 from two accounts belonging to Shweta and her son after she fell prey to the fraud message. Shweta filed a complaint with the bank and Khar police.
Taking a serious note, 40 FIRs were registered across city police stations and 10 with the cyber police station between February 27 to March 3.
The victims include senior citizens, bank officials, corporate employees and actors. DCP (Mumbai-cyber) Balsing Rajput said there was no customer data breach from the bank.
Mumbai cyber police alerts Mumbaikars not to fall prey to such messages that are rampant in the city.
