Notwithstanding the KYC fraud on the rise and police alert, yet people commit the mistake.
Many have fallen victims and lost huge sum of money.

The recent victim to the KYC fraud is Actor-politician Nagma Morarji who lost ₹1 lakh in KYC fraud after clicking on spam link.

As per Nagma after clicking
on a spam link which she received on her phone as a text message, she immediately got a call from a person claiming to be from the bank

Nagma adds that said the text message resembled those sent by banks as it was not from a private number.

Reportedly, Nagma is among the 80 other victims who have been duped of several lakh rupees in a span of few days through the bank account fraud.

Sharing details with the media, the 48-year-old actor affirmed that the person reportedly told her that he would guide her to complete the KYC update and the fraudster gained remote access to her phone. However, she clarified that she had not shared any details on the link. The fraudster created a beneficiary account after logging into her internet banking and transferred
Rs 1 lakh to a nationalised bank. She eceived multiple OTPs which showed they made at least 20 attempts. Luckily, she did not lose a huge sum. .

Mumbai cyber police have issued a warning to everyone in the city not to fall prey to such messages.

According to Cyber Crime Cell under Crime Branch of Mumbai police, the most common form of online frauds are related to banks, online commerce platforms where fraudsters, posing as bank/platform officials, convince the victim to share OTP, KYC updates and sometimes send the links to be clicked to access bank accounts.

DCP Cyber Crime, Balsingh Rajput, states that people should know no bank or institution is authorised to demand for bank details or PIN numbers. Unfortunately, educated people are falling prey to online frauds and losing lakhs of rupees,” DCP Cyber Crime, Balsingh Rajput, had earlier explained.

Coming to Nagma’s film stints, she made her Bollywood debut in 1990 with the Salman Khan-starrer actioner Baaghi. She is also recognised for her performance in films like King Uncle, Suhaag, Yalgaar, Lal Baadshah, Chal Mere Bhai, Kunwara, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo and several others.

She also featured in several Telugu, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Kannada films.

Nagma joined Congress in 2004 and campaigned in Andhra Pradesh. She contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Meerut as a Congress candidate. She was appointed the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress in 2015.
