Bombay HC rules Child trafficking heinous forms of exploitation
Child trafficking has emerged as one of the most heinous forms of exploitation.
The crime just not only impacts the child and its family, but also threatens the very fabric of the society. The Bombay High Court said made this statement amid denying bail to a person arrested for kidnapping a 10-month-old child.
The baby was kidnapped in August 2021 when she was sleeping with her mother on a footpath in suburban Bandra.
According to the police, the accused Parandam Gudenti had parted with the baby to a childless couple from Telangana for Rs 1.05 lakh.
Noting that the footpath
dwellers, particularly street children, are the most vulnerable and marginalised section of the societyA single bench of Justice Anuja Prabhudessai on March 14 ruled that the it is prone to victimisation and exploitation.
Looking to the gravity of the gravity of the offence, the court was not inclined to grant bail to the accused.
Gudenti was booked on the charges of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, and trafficking.
The court noted that prima facie, the material submitted by the police indicates that Gudenti was involved in a racket of kidnapping and sale of children.
