Kannada actor Chetan Kumar arrested over his Hindutva tweet
In a bizzare incident, popular Kannada actor Chetan Kumar, fondly recognised as Chetan Ahimsa, has courted arrest by Bengaluru police following his tweet on Hindutva going viral
Reportedly, the Hindutva comment that”Hindutva is built on lies” did not go well as it has hurt the sentiments of the Hindus in particular. The actor went on to add that Hindutva could only be defeated by truth.
He has been taken into custody by the Sheshadripuram police in Bengaluru. The actor a Dalit and tribal activist, was produced at a district court and sent to jail for 14 days. He faces charges for insult of a religion or religious beliefs and making statements that promote enmity amid classes.
In a tweet on March 20, Kumar claimed that Hindutva is built on lies. The actor had further alleged that Hindutva can only be thwarted by truth.
Hours following his post on twitter, the pro-Hindu organisations filed a complaint against him and an FIR was registered at the Sheshadripuram police station.
This is not the actor’s first run-in with the law as in February 2022, he was arrested for an objectionable tweet on Karnataka High Court Justice Krishna Dixit, who was then hearing the hijab case.
