Vivek Oberoi opens up on ‘bullying and lobbying’ in Bollywood,
Following Global Star Priyanka Chopra over being cornered in Bollywood now its the turn of Vivek Oberoi, son of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi. He comes down heavily on Bollywood’s bullying and lobbying and above all the casting couch.
Vivek recalled PeeCee going against Salman Khan and how he was without work for nearly 14 months even after giving hit films. Isn’t it strange? Thanks to so called lobbyists and those who bully around.
He even came down heavily on Salman Khan and 20 years of his press conference against him.
In 2003, Vivek had called a press conference to claim of being threatened by Salman Khan claimed that Salman tover phonetically..At that time around he was going steady with Aishwarya Rai, Salman’s former girlfriend. Vivek even crossed the seven seas to meet the ailing Aishwarya Rai in US.
In one of his latest interviews, Vivek he reeled through a lot of things that nearly exhausted him, crushed his morale and pushed him to a corner of joblessness.
Speaking to a well reputed Delhi based out English Daily Vivek articulated that he feels glad to have emerged from that. He came up through the trial by fire and survived. Himmat nahi hara. He encountered all challenges and emerged free.
He went on to add that Bollywood is a very insecure destination. Artists by nature live in a very fragile state because they’re more vulnerable. Whether it was the MeToo movement, the casting couch, or just bullying, lobbyingall of these things take the joy out of the creativity. He is contended that such darker side of Bollywood is exposed.
The actor termed Priyanka’s statement ‘inspirational’ and lauded the actor for venturing out. “When he voiced against it, every ‘well wisher’ would call him to say to not to talk about it. It is like a family secret.
But when an abuse is going on in the family and when you don’t speak up about it because it’s a family secret? That sounds absolutely stupid. How will the abuse get fixed? So, it’s a systemic issue in the industry which is getting better. People are being more vocal
It was in March 2023, that Priyanka articulated in one of her interviews that she moved to the US because she was ‘cornered’ in Bollywood. She also revealed that she had ‘beef’ with people and that she was ‘tired of politics’ in the Hindi film industry.
The actor also confessed that the support of fans now scares a lot of people. “Less and less people can play God and the fans are now aware. Sushant (Singh Rajput, late actor) should have never lost his life no matter what. It’s just so sad. He was talented young guy and he was coming up. He should have had a better network of friends. When you tag the industry as a ‘family’ then the family should be there for each other.
On the work front,Vivek was last seen in Samit Kakkad’s web series ‘Dharavi Bank’. It also features Suniel Shetty.
He will next be seen in Rohit Shetty directorial ‘Indian Police Force’ co-starring Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.
