In a bid to provide food and beverages for those visiting visitors the official residences of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, the state government on Thursday in a new development, has appointed two caterers. The government will incur an expense of Rs 5 crore.

In accordance to a government resolution (GR) issued on Thursday, the state general administration department has appointed Shri Sukh Sagar Hospitality and Chhatradhari Caterers for Shinde’s Varsha and Fadnavis’ Sagar bungalows.

After floating a tender, the GR stated that the two companies were appointed for two years.
It further mentioned that whereas the annual expenditure for catering services at Varsha will be Rs 3.5 crore, Rs 1.5 crore will be spent on Sagar bungalow.

As per an official three caterers had submitted bids. Chhatradhari Caterers emerged as the lowest bidder with lowest bids and hence, was selected. However, in view of the high footfall at the two residences, a decision was initiated to appoint separate caterers for the two residences.

Accordingly, the two other companies that evinced interests were asked to match the rates given by Chhatradhari Caterers. Following this, while Shri Sukhsagar Hospitality – which matched the rates – was selected for Varsha, Chhatradhari Caterers was selected for Sagar.

The official further added that the companies will provide 44 food and beverage items at a fixed rate. If the items are sold at higher rates, then payment for the same will not be sanctioned.

Earlier this year, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, NCP’s Ajit Pawar, had raised questions on the expenditure of Rs 2.68 crore on catering services at Varsha in just four months.
