The horror flick ‘Mangalavaaram’ is scheduled for a pan-India release and the first poster of the film was unveiled on Tuesday morning. Featuring Payal Rajput, the poster sees the actress going topless with her back facing the camera, while a red butterfly sits atop her finger.

The music for the film is scored by B. Ajaneesh Loknath of ‘Kantara’ fame. Produced by Swathi Gunupati and Suresh Varma M of Mudhra Media Works, ‘Mangalavaaram’ centres around a remote village, based in the 90s and sees Payal essay as Shailaja or Shailu, a woman in the quest for liberation.

According to director Bhupathi “Mangalavaaram is a village-based action-thriller set in 90’s. It sticks to our nativity while being raw and rustic, especially with regard to the visuals and emotions.

Payal’s character will be remembered for a long time after watching this movie in the theatres. It’s a new-genre film that’s never been featured in Indian Cinema. There are 30 characters in the story and every character has got a certain place in the larger scheme of the film.”

It is also being reported that the film will introduce many new faces in the form of the supporting ensemble cast.

Adding further to the director’s views, producer Gunupati added, “Just like Indu from RX100, Ajay Bhupathi’s Shailaja will also be remembered for a longtime. We wrapped up 75 days of the shoot. We’re planning to wind up the last schedule of the movie next month. The concept is exciting, and the content is shaping up amazingly well. Kantara fame Ajaneesh Loknath has been roped in to compose music.”

Earlier this year, the title and concept poster of the film was released by Bhupathi, which projected a butterfly. The film is aiming at an August 2023 release but further details about that are awaited.

Following the success of ‘RX 100’, fans of A-rated cinema have huge expectations from the combination of Bhupathi and Rajput as the film became a rare exception to have witnessed a box-office collection of ₹10 crore in its opening weekend, itself. The film was made on a budget of just ₹2 crore
