In the Mukul Dutt directorial Agneepath, Rohini played mother to legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.

The 1990 super hit film centered around Vijay essayed by Amitabh Bachchan who sets out to take revenge over the death of his father and injustices done to his family by joining the Mumbai underworld.

Amidst her recent interview with Rajshri Unplugged, the veteran actor went on to reveal that when she was all set to shoot for Agneepath, her mother-in-law took ill.

Yash Johar never cribbed over money. And she owed a debt of gratitude to him for his greatness because the shoot was about to begin, but my mother-in-law was down with cancer. Her treatment was in progress and after a few rounds of chemotherapy, she started to get better. She started picking up work around then, so did Jayadev ji (her husband). He had to go to Delhi to direct a play, when she received the news of her mother that her cancer had relapsed.Jayadev had to go to Delhi, because it was a commitment and even she was committed to begin the film. However, her mother-in-law was “sinking”. The family kept a nurse for 24 hours and had no option but to wait and watch. Which is when she called up her secretary and told her that she won’t be able to begin shooting.

There was none available to look after her. When the news was sounded to Yash ji ears, the very next day he reached her Wadala residence. Later she got to know that Yash ji told her secretary to tell her not to worry at all, and that they will wait for her.’ Now, who waits like that? The set was erected and there was no clarity when she would recover, and when she could return for the shoot. For nearly ten days Yashji said he will wait, but she thought that won’t be possible, and that she might lose her role as well.

She got busy with care taking and didn’t think about the film at all. When she was sinking, so called Jaydev ji, and the same afternoon, she passed away. She called up her secretary and said now she can start shooting. So on the 13th day, from the day it was originally scheduled to begin, she went for her film shoot. Till then, they halted the shoot for me. It was a plum role and had it slipped from her hand, she would have regretted it. But he did wait for her she added.

Rohini further made it known that looking back she feels she was destined to play the part, which she counted as one of her all-time favorite roles. “That too with Amit ji, who is her favourite actor.
