Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy’s wife Sudha Murthy made her appearance at the Kapil Sharma Show on Sunday 14 May.
The viewers were blown away by her clever sense of humor. She came along with producer Guneet Monga, Oscar award winner and actress Raveena Tandon.
Author and philanthropist, Sudha shared an anecdote recalling of an immigration officer who refused to believe her residential address when she wrote in the form ’10 Downing Street’ – the official residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Her daughter, Akshata, is married to Rishi Sunak, who took charge as the prime minister of the United Kingdom in September, last year. Perhaps the immigration officer was not versed of her status.
Once they asked her for her residential address. ‘Where are you staying in London?’
Her elder sister was with her and she wrote ’10 Downing Street’. Her son also lives there (in the UK), but she wasn’t aware of his complete address. She finally wrote 10 Downing Street.
She revealed that the immigration officer looked at her in complete disbelief and asked, “Are you joking?!” She replied, “Nahi, sachchi bolti hu” (No, I am telling you the truth).
Sudha said that her simple appearance can often be deceptive to people adding that none believes that she is 72-year-old, simple lady and the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister,” she said on the show.
Talking about her husband Narayana Murthy, the Infosys foundation chairperson said, Narayana Murthy has the same weight now that he had when we got married. Because I am a bad cook, my husband has maintained his weight.” This made everyone burst out laughing.
Sudha further spoke on what she thought when she heard her husband’s name for the first time. She said, “Ek mitra te uska naam Prasanna, aur woh mere colleague te Telco mein. Hum bus se jaate te harroz kaam ke liye. Aur har roz ek book lete the, every book has this–Narayana Murthy Istanbul, Narayana Murthy Peshawar, Narayana Murthy Paris. Mujhe laga yej Narayana Murthy international bus conductor hai kya?” The entire audience at the show burst into peels of laughter.
Sudha also revealed what she thought when she first met Narayana Murthy, saying “Mujhe laga ekdum film hero ke jaisa handsome, bold, dashing. When he opened the door mujhe laga ye kaun hai aadmi, chhota bachha?”
Recently, she was honoured with the highest civilian award Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India.
