National award winning news presenter Gjtanjali Aiyar no.more she was in mid 70’s.
It is saddenning to learn of the demise of Award-winning anchor Gitanjali Aiyar in her mid-70s on June 7.
After graduating from Kolkata’s Loreto College, Gitanjali Aiyar joined Doordarshan in 1971. She was the proud recepient of theAnchor Award Four Times and also honoured with the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Outstanding Women in 1989.
Gitanjali was one of India’s first English news presenters.
Reports reveal that she collapsed after she returning home from a walk. She was battling Parkinson’s disease and was on medication.
Apart carving a niche for herself in news reporting, Gitanjali had also been a popular face in several print advertisements and even acted in Sridhar Kshirsagar’s TV drama “Khandaan.” She held a diploma from the National School of Drama (NSD),
Many Congress leaders and journalists tweeted their condolence on the popular news reader.

Congress leader Netta D’Souza wrote “We fondly remember the days when Gitanjali Aiyar ji graced our TV screens, leaving an indelible mark on our news-watching experiences.
Journalist Sheela Bhatt tweeted “India’s one of the best tv newsreaders, warm and elegant person and woman of immense substance is no more. Deepest condolences to her family.
Aiyar is survived by a son and daughter Pallavi Aiyar, who is also an award-winning journalist.
