Akshay Ranbir Kapoor Sunny films clash on August 11
With Akshay Kumar’s film OMG2 scheduled for 11 August release, Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal” and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” also releases on the same day. It will be a colossal box-office clash
So, this Independence Day weekend will see Akshay vs Ranbir vs Sunny at the box office.
Akshay Kumar took to social media to announce the release date of OMG 2 with an intriguing poster. The actor is seen in a fierce avatar sporting long locks with a man bun, reminding of Lord Shiva. He has a damroo in his hand with ashes all over his body as he stands in a tandav pose.
Along with it, he announced that the film will release theatrically on August 11. Earlier, there were some reports that the film might go direct-to-digital. However, this announcement’s has quashed those rumours.
Infact it was Ranbir Kapoor who was the first onr to lock the Independence Day weekend for his gritty dark thriller “Animal”, The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial will see Ranbir in a never-seen-before avatar. The story follows a father-son duo and how their relationship darkens over time. The leaked footage from the film’s shoot has left the fans curious, especially with Ranbir’s look. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri.
Meanwhile, this ýear’s clash is between 3 films of different genres. While Animal is a dark thriller, Gadar 2 is a patriotic drama while OMG 2 is expected to be a social comedy. Even though the genres might differ, but with such huge names and expectations attached to all 3, they will eat into each other’s business for sure.
Alia Bhatt will also make her Hollywood debut on the same date with Heart Of Stone, but that will have a digital release.
While 2 films would have been easier to manage for the audience, the addition of one more will make things a little tricky. Here’s to hoping that all 3 films become successful, but it remains to be seen how this clash affects the Hindi film business in general. Is it going to be a huge celebration or an opportunity wasted, only time will tell.
