Huma Qureshi recalls reeling through dark phase and on body shaming
Recently Huma Qureshi, who is very active on social media opened up on being subjected to body shaming prior to she talking on body positivity in magazine covers.
Over a media interaction, Huma mentions that sometimes she feels like pulling out all the old articles and turn the lens towards the people writing it saying, ‘This is what you do to a young person who is trying to make it in her 20s.’
The actress also mentioned the kind of things written on her which were something like ‘What she wears, ‘look at her knees and her calves’, ‘zooming on certain body parts and circling them.’
She added that maybe a lot of kids who grow up in Mumbai must be used to hearing that from their parents or friends but it was difficult for her to understand how to deal with such situations.
When Huma used to read such stuff written about her after she became an actress, she used to question herself whether she is not looking good enough and maybe she needs to change herself. She confessed that she was trying to change but it was not coming from a good place.
She added that in her personal life she never had an issue with her looks. But when she became an actress, people told her to lose weight or get a liposuction surgery. She also recalled a journalist telling her that she needs to look a certain way because they have to be in front of the camera.
On being asked on cosmetic surgery, as per Huma, it’s a personal choice and tomorrow if she decides to shave her eyebrows, she may do it if her role demands. She further revealed that she went through a dark phase due to her weight because people would constantly tell her to lose weight.
She then recalled a reviewer talking about her weight after her second film which reads something like, ‘She’s such a lovely fine actress with a beautiful face but maybe she’s 5 kgs too heavy to be a mainstream heroine.’ Huma said that she was sobbing and upset after reading this review.
On the work front, Huma is currently seen as Tarla, which showcases the inspiring journey of renowned Indian chef Tarla Dalal. Filming on the third season of her acclaimed series Maharani has also begun. The makers on shared the update on its Twitter page.
