Whereas Gadar – Ek Prem Katha released in 2001 despite deeply embedded in memory merely for its gripping content, unparalleled box office achievements, the Sunny Deol Ameesha Patel took its time to surpass previous records and establish groundbreaking new ones. Whereas Gadar 2 has swiftly begun setting records within the first three days of its release. The tremendous demand for the movie has prompted numerous theaters to introduce post-midnight and early-morning screenings.
This phenomena has emerged a regular occurrence in Mumbai, where films like Sooryavanshi Gangubai Kathiawadi Drishyam 2 and most recently Oppenheimer have all embraced late-night shows.
This trend notably, Notably, this has also caught on in smaller towns and centers this time.
On Sunday, August 13, Cinestar Multiplex scheduled screenings of Gadar 2 at 1:00 AM and 5:30 AM. Concurrently, Entertainment Paradise will present the film at 1:15 AM. As per reliable sources, this marks a historic occasion at Entertainment Paradise, as it’s the first instance of screening a movie so late in its extensive history.
In the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar region, several theaters including AB Miniplex, Sanelite Cinemas, Connplex Smart Theatre Maninagar, Connplex Smart Theatre Prahladnagar, Miraj City Pulse, Rajhans Cinemas Vastral, Miraj Cinemas Vitthal Plaza, Banana Smartplex, and Mango Plus Cinemas, have slotted screenings amidst 12:05 AM and 2:00 AM.
In Surat, Friday Cinema will exhibit Gadar 2 at 1:15 AM. According to Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, operator of The Friday Cinema multiplex, Usually, he sets showtimes at 11:58 or 11:59 PM to avoid confusion for moviegoers, as they might not realize the change of day after midnight.
But, for Gadar 2, amid full bookings, he opted for a 1:15 AM show. It brings back memories of the frenzy during KGF – Chapter 2 in 2002.
Apart from Mumbai now Jaipur adds Post Midnight shows of Gadar2
In Surat, Inox Raj Imperial has achieved a remarkable feat by deciding to screen Gadar 2 continuously for 24 hours. Unlike most theaters that offer post-midnight shows on only 1 or 2 screens, this multiplex has gone above and beyond by featuring Gadar 2 across all 6 screens! In the time span from 12 AM to 8 AM, a total of 13 showings of this action-packed film are scheduled.
Many other theaters are also adopting to the trend of screening Gadar 2 after midnight. For instance, Moviemax Cinemagic in Bikaner, Rajasthan, will host a showing at 12:45 am. In Sikar, Rajasthan, Miraj Cinemas Bioscope has planned screenings at 1:30 AM and 6:50 AM, while Cine Wheels Drive In By Windasa in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, will present the film at 1:15 AM. The list of participating theaters continues to expand with each passing hour.
According to a source within the exhibition industry, there is a growing concern among exhibitors to incorporate late-night or early-morning screenings. The movie is encountering challenges related to limited capacity due to having to share screens with another film, OMG 2. However, audience members are displaying an eagerness to avoid waiting until weekdays or the following week to experience Gadar 2.
Their immediate desire to watch the film is expected to lead to a surge in additional cinema venues offering more showtimes, consequently making a significant impact in terms of historical precedent.
Bikaner in Rajasthan also joins the list of post midnight shows.
