Aditya Raj Shammi Kapoor Geeta Bali’s son graduates at 67
Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bail’s son, Aditya Raj, quit Bollywood after failure to make it as a hero and decided to pursue his further studies. He graduated at the age of 67
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
This makes him the first man from the Kapoor family to complete college. Ranbir Kapoor had recently said that none from the illustrious film family had gone beyond class XII in school.
Over an interview, actor-director said, that he had all the opportunities to study and just never took them. Over the years he realised his error. But that was not enough, it was only when he felt the emptiness within him that he realised the importance of a value in education. Which brought him to his subject: Philosophy.”
Aditya further revealed that when he turned 61, he began studying again and credited his daughter Tulsi for pushing him to get back to academics.
He further added that he missed a few exams during the Covid-19 induced lockdowns but persisted with his attempts. Two weeks ago, he passed with 59% marks. Dedicating the degree to his mother, late actress Geeta Bali, Aditya further added that he has now enrolled for MA.
Aditya began his professional career as an assistant director in the 70s, assisting uncle Raj Kapoor in films like Bobby, and following up again as an assistant director in Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Giraftaar and Saajan among others.
In 2007, he, however, made his comeback as a writer-director with the films Don’t Stop Dreaming and Sambar Salsa. However, the films proved a debacle. In 2010, he made his acting debut with Chase and later also acted in Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and a couple of other films.
He last appeared on screen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s TV series Everest in 2015.
