For legendary actress Vyjayantimala, age is just a number and has no boundaries.
Unquestionably, Dance, often insinuated as the treasured
art of the divine, finds its earthly epitome in the liquid grace of Vyjayanthimala.
Her apparitional movements makes one envision celestial dancers, amiably twirling to the eternal melodies of the cosmos.
It was at a tender age that Vyjayanthimala setoff on her dance journey. Interestingly, at the age of six years she performed in front of the Pope at the Vatican.
Recently, a video surfaced on the internet displaying Vyjayanthimala’s elegant dance in traditional attire. Even at 90 she dances gracefully without any flaw to her steps. It’s the divine strength instilled in her body. She is blessed with timeless talent.

She commenced her cinematic journey with Tamil cinema,and swiftly transitioned into the Hindi film industry, and dominated throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
Notedý the era was etched by the reign of iconic actresses like Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Nargis, Suchitra Sen, Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha, and Nutan.
In the midst of this tough competition, she remained undeterred, maintaining a clear focus and ensuring that her acting career never overshadowed her classical dance prowess.
On the screen, her presence exuded an irresistible charm, enthralling audiences with her expressive, sparkling eyes that effortlessly conveyed a myriad of emotions. Infact, Vyjayanthimala carved a milestone as the first South Indian actress to achieve nationwide acclaim and stardom, paving the way for others from the region to venture into bollywood.
Notedly, Vyjayantimala shared screen space with all the superstars of her era, that included Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, and it was her on-screen chemistry with the legendary Dilip Kumar that resonated most with audiences.
Acknowledged for her exemplary dance numbers in bollywood, following her marriage, Vyjayanthimala lost interest in films and retired from acting. But, her passion for dance, however, remained unwavering, leading her to continue her dance career.
She relocated to Chennai and tied the knot with Chamanlal Bali in 1968. Subsequently, she penned her autobiography, titled ‘Bonding,’ with Jyoti Sabarwal as her co-writer. She embraced politics, securing a Lok Sabha seat in 1985 and subsequently won a nomination to the Rajya Sabha.
Currently, she has dedicated her focus to promotion and advocacy of Indian classical dance and music.
Although, she may no longer grace the silver screen, her lasting contributions to the bollywood industry will always be treasured.
