J & Kashmir edu dept suspends Srinagar-based senior lecturer from service over deliquesce of Article 370 case

In a new development, the Jammu and Kashmir education department has suspended a Srinagar-based senior lecturer from service for his court appearance amid the ongoing Supreme Court case on the Union government’s option to
deliquesce Article 370.

Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, an advocate, had ppeared for petitioners in the case.
An order on Friday issued by principal secretary to the government, school education, Alok Kumar termed Bhat a “lawbreaking officer”.

Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, senior lecturer, political science, presently posted at Government Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar pending enquiry into his conduct is placed under suspension with immediate effect for violation of provisions of J&K CSR, Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (conduct) Rules, 1971.

The suspension order continues that In the midst of the period of suspension, the lawbreaker shall remain attached in the office of Director School Education Jammu.

Meanwhile, Subah Mehta, joint director, school education, Jammu has been appointed as the inquiry officer to “look into” Bhat’s conduct.

As per media reports, when Zahoor, the lawbreaker appeared in the Supreme Court, Bhat had said, he teaches Indian politics in J&K. It is… very difficult for him to teach since 2019 on this beautiful Constitution. When students ask if we are a democracy after 2019, it is difficult to answer.

Regardless of the assurance made by the then Governor Satya Pal Malik on August 4 that the Article 370 will not be abrogated, a curfew was imposed at midnight which resulted in the detention of the and former chief ministers.

He articulated that J&K’s special status was downgraded and the erstwhile state split into two union territories “in violation of the morality of Indian constitution”. It goes against people’s right to democracy as the consent of people of J&K and Ladakh was not taken into consideration.

Bhat reiterated that the move was against cooperate federalism and supremacy of the Constitution.
