Karan Johar recalls his dad Yash Johar fell asleep amid Kuch Kuch Hota Hai narration

Karan Johar set foot to the glitzy world of films and assisted Aditya Chopra, son of veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
His father was a bizman and later turned producer.

He was vert much aware that his next level would be to helm a movie. But, his parents weren’t very certain on his career. In fact, his mother questioned if he even knew where to place the camera amidst filming a scene and his father fell asleep when he was narrating his first script for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, to him.

Karan at a recent interaction in the midst of the Toronto International Film Festival, Karan shared how his parents weren’t much inclined when he told them directing a movie.

Karan recalled that on the first day of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s shoot, his mother Hiroo Johar woke him up at 5 am and asked him if he wanted to back out of his debut and ask Aditya Chopra to direct Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He woke up and said ‘what happened?’ He thought something happened since she was sitting at his bedside. And she said ‘do you know where to place the camera?’” When Karan looked at her and said yes, she said, It isn’t too late. If you don’t want to direct this movie, call Adi and ask him to direct in your place and she will support him.

Karan shared that his mother was extremely skeptical over his decision and kept asking him if he was sure on making movies.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherji and Kajol Devgn turned out to be a blockbuster and after this there was no looking back for Karan. He made both his mother and father proud by emerging as a successful director right from his very first film.

As of today, he is rated as one of Bollywood’s top filmmaker. His Dharma Productions is recognised as one of top film production house. All his actors are in top position today.
