The Asia Cup Finale on Sunday 17 September 2023 will go down in the history of sports as one of the memorable tournament as India clinched the Asia Cup for the 8th time.
This was made possible by the Hyderabad pacer who breathed fire by taking 6 wickets and bundling the Lankans for their never imagined score of 50 runs after batting first.
The pitch looked favourable for bowlers and Indian pacers Bumrah and Siraj took full advantage of it.
It was like a Bollywood actor turning star overnight. Siraj turned ‘hero’ with his six wicket haul.
With this win he has not only made the team, the BCCI, but his parents as well. This day, 17 September2023 will be remembered as an ‘historic’ day for India and the Sports fraternity.
What needs to be admired of Siraj, was his gesture to dedicate the ‘Player of the Final’ cash prize to the ground staff of R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, for their hard work to ensure the final game as also some games earlier went ahead after interruptions caused by rain.
A number of games were affected by rain throughout the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka like India’s group-stage game against Pakistan and Nepal, Asia Cup final spot decider between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Amid a post-match interaction, Siraj announced that this cash prize goes to the groundsmen as without them, this tournament wouldn’t have been possible.
