Jaya Bhaduri fell ‘madly in love’ with Amitabh – Married life spans over 40 years
It’s been over 40 years- Jaya Bhaduri and Amitabh Bachchan characterized marital happiness. Their romance blossomed at the Pune Film Institute.
To many, their relationship today represents the
quintessence of marital harmony.
The first chapter of their
‘Love Story’ blossomed at the Pune Film Institute. Amitabh, then was an emerging actor struggling to find his place in the world of cinema. He was at the institute accompanied by a group of actors and the renowned director, K. Abbas.
Jaya had already carved a niche for herself as a leading star in the industry. It’s learnt that Amitabh’s first enchantment with Jaya was when he spotted her on a magazine cover.
For him, that moment was nothing short of magic; he felt like he had seen his dream woman. He was particularly drawn to her eyes, which seemed to encompass a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary values.
While they might have caught glimpses of each other, it wasn’t until they were both on the set of “Guddi”
Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, t formally introduced them. Jaya’s initial admiration for Amitabh stemmed from his lineage, being the son of the esteemed Harivanshrai Bachchan.
She admitted in interviews that from their first meeting, she sensed a unique spark in him and believed he was destined for great things in Indian cinema. Her feelings rapidly evolved into deep affection.
Surprisingly, it was Jaya, not Amitabh, who first recognized the blossoming love between them.
Their time on the set of
“Ek Nazar” was pivotal, as Amitabh too began to realize his growing feelings for her.
But, not everyone was supportive of their budding relationship. As per reports, Rajesh Khanna, a close friend of Jaya’s, allegedly expressed reservations over their association.
After the success of the Prakash Mehra directorial Zanjeer”, Amitabh, in a jubilant mood, planned a trip to London with his friends. Eager to share this joyous occasion, he wished to bring Jaya along.
However, his parents, holding traditional values close, insisted that they marry first. Recognizing the depth of his feelings, Amitabh wasted no time and proposed to Jaya,
who responded with an enthusiastic affirmation.
Their families too were supportive of this union.
And then, on June 3, 1973, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close family and friends, Jaya Bhaduri and Amitabh Bachchan solidified their commitment to one another. In a romantic twist, immediately after their wedding, the newlyweds embarked on their planned trip to London.
While their journey together was not without its fair share of challenges and whispers of Amitabh’s rumored liaisons with co-stars like Rekha, Parveen Babi, and Zeenat Aman, their bond remained unshaken.
Jaya, in her characteristic grace,
once mentioned in an interview, that she had unwavering faith in her husband and a deep understanding of the industry.
Never once she has felt insecure or doubted their bond.
This narrative displays a love story built on trust, understanding, and mutual respect, one that has withstood the test of time and remains an inspiration for many.
