Karishma Tanna goes euphoric
on winning award for Netflix’s Scoop at Busan International Film Festival
Hansal Mehta directorial and
Netflix’s acclaimed web series
‘Scoop’ was honoured with two awards at the prestigious 28th Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Content Awards and Global OTT Awards.
The web series won the best Asian TV series award while lead actor Karishma Tanna won the best lead actress award.
as much-anticipated, Karishma is on cloud nine with this victory.
Karishma recollected her cameo in Sanju; she just had 3-4 scenes but she knew that if she nailed it, she ould stand out.
The honour didn’t come as a surprise as she expected this one award. She had a little intuition on that. But she never expected both awards and she is much bewildered and elated.
How was your experience at the Busan International Film Festival and being in South Korea?
Karishma went on to add that It was an outstanding experience and she always wanted to go to South Korea. She had heard a lot about Korean films and shows. Hence, always wanted to be around them and be a part of their awards and festivals.
Then when she learnt that the show had been nominated and also that she had been nominated in the leading actress category, joy knew no bounds for Karishma as she was over the moon.
For Karishma, the nomination itself was a big deal and even that itself was a victory.
It was indeed unfortunate that Hansal Mehta couldn’t come as he was unwell. Hence, she took the opportunity to represent the Scoop alone. She was much nervous and self-confident at the same time.
There are only a handful of people who feel happy over hersuccess. Some of them feel good about herperformance but probably forget to message her. That’s not what she kept in her mind. Nevertheless, Hansal Mehta was the first one to congratulate her. Thereafter, Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, Kritika Kamra, Rakul Preet Singh etc congratulated her and it gave her a good feeling when the industry members support her.
There was not a single flaw in her performance and many are amazed that I pulled off such a difficult role with ease. Admittedly, the Industry took the industry so long to give her such a great role.
But for Karishma, she feels it is Better late than never. Everything comes at the right time. Sometimes, even she feels that she has been in this industry for a very long time and that it took a while to highlight herself and get the setup that she always wanted.
She cherishes this moment after years of getting rewards and challenges at the same time. And when you get the reward, she cherishes the moment the most. It happened a little late in life but she is happy the outcome is so good after waiting patiently. She is not bitter about it. At least now the industry knows that she is an actor and has a different perception about her.
The success of Scoop has translated into better offers for which she feels a lot of offers have been filtered. A few scripts have come to her.
Good concepts, good scripts, good setups and good directors take time. She is waiting for the right project to come her way. At the same time, she is also doing ads, collaborations etc.
Karishma does want to give a shot to cinema once again.
She has never stopped dreaming about the big screen. If it comes her way, she will accept it with open arms.
But, then, it all depends on luck and destiny, and of course on the producers and directors.
She had a memorable cameo in Sanju and it was a great example of an actor with limited screen time leaving a lasting impression…
She did get her validation from Sanju. The moviegoers talked about her though she had just 3-4 scenes. She took it up positively and was very excited to be a part of such a big film.
She knew that if she nailed it, she would stand out. She remembers that When Sanju was released, all the critics mentioned her and it did make her realize that if you perform the way you are supposed to do, you will get noticed.
It was exhilirating to be directed by Rajkumar and it was like a dream come true.
The common factor between Sanju and Scoop is casting director Mukesh Chhabra…
He’s definitely been a big support system in her life.
As a casting director, you need to have that eye about who to cast and for what character.
Karishma feels extremely glad that the director saw the potential in her and cast her not once but twice in brilliant projects.
It is Karishms’s feeling that she she erŕsure that Netflix will make another part of Scoop for sure. Now, it’s become like a successful franchise.
At the end of the shoot, she had come on the sets. Only 1 or 2 days of the shoot were left. That’s when she interacted with her. It was not like she was playing an Indira Gandhi or a Jawaharlal Nehru that Ilshehad to imitate them or get the body language right. Scoop was in a different league, though it was based on a real-life character and incident. E
Everything was written in the script and Hansal idn’t want me to meet as he didn’t want me to copy her.
She’s very proud of the show and couldn’t see it for the longest time. Finally, she gathered her emotions and watched the series.
Kangana hsd many wishes and a dream of buying land and opening a farm for all the distressed animals like stray dogs, cats, deer, 666 goats, bulls etc. She also wishes to open an animal hospital as there’s only one such place in Mumbai. Thirdly, shevalso want to do good, challenging work with good directors and make an impact with every film or show. I hope to sign a project with Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby. Lastly, she would like to meet influential people like Nita Ambani because, like her, she’s also a Gujarati (laughs). She is for sure that she’ll love her once we meet!
So yes, she would love to meet her and collaborate with her for the cause of animals as she has heard that she’s very helpful.
