Even as the Narcotic Agency have been carrying out raids and apprehending drug peddlars and busting the racket yet the illegal business flourishes with the offenders having ni fear to law and the consequences thereof.
A recent case comes to light of a Nashik-based drug racketeer who was was on Tuesday 17 October 2023 apprehended following a continuous chase by the Saki Naka Police Team.
Accused Lalit Patil was driving a private car which he took on hire from his friend in Surat to a restaurant in a small village in Karnataka,100 km away from Bengaluru City,10 days ago.
Lalit is the 15th accused and the prime kingpin to get arrested by the Saki Naka Police in 151 kg mephedrone drug bust at the Nashik-based godown located at Shinde Gaon on October 6.
The police team tracked Lalit after they traced a private car registration number that he had hired from Surat.
Reportedly, the hired car was spotted and got hold into in cameras at the Tolls he took on Samruddhi Mahamarg while fleeing to Karnataka.
Lalit who had been abscoding from the Pune Sassoon Hospital in October, is the kingpin of the gang that manufactured mephedrone in Nashik since December 2022.
The drug weighed 10 grams and was seized from peddlers on August 8. This prompted the Saki Naka police to delve deep into the case..
The police arrested twelve more Twelve more prior to raiding the Nashik plant on October 6 and found workers at the factory were manufacturing psychotropic drugs under the garb of the medicines.
Reportedly, the godown is owned by Bhushan Patil (a chemical engineer) and brother of the drug trafficker Lalit Patil.
He fled from Pune Hospital to Gujarat and later to Karnataka.
As per Sakinaka Police sources, the police teams trailed Patil using their technical and human intelligence
Meanwhile, the Saki Naka police have applied for the custody of Lalit’s younger brother Bhushan Patil from Pune police who arrested him from Uttar Pradesh in a joint operation with the UP’s special task force (STF) on October 10.
Acting on a tip-off, joint commissioner of police (law and order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary supervised DCP (Zone X) Datta Nalawade and learned that Lalit had fled to Surat where he had stayed in a hotel for three days after he fled from Pune on October 2.
Following his flee from Pune Hospital, Lalit stationed himself at Chalisgaon in Jalgaon district before heading to Gujarat’s Surat.
DCP Nalawade who supervised the team asserted that the
Saki Naka police senior inspector Gabaji Chimte, inspector Yogesh Shinde, assistant inspector Maitranand Khandare, sub-inspector Pankaj Pardeshi, and staff–got the first breakthrough when they kept surveillance on Lalit’s relatives, friends, and those caught in drug haul recently as well in the past and got a lead about his whereabouts in a Surat hotel.
It was at Surat, that the police team got in touch with Lalit’s relatives who provided information that he had left the place in a private car after staying in a hotel for three days.
The Police Officer further revealed that got details from the tools of the private car that Lalit used on his travel. He first went to Chalisgaon and from there headed to Surat.
Notably, three days later, he drove to Dhule, then to Solapur before heading to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. He was finally apprehended from a restaurant at Channasandra in Bengaluru.
The officer acertained that initially the name of Patil brothers was not reflected in the case.
The 12 arrests made between August 8 to October 6 facilitated the police to get to know that the Patil brother was running a drug syndicate that was into manufacture of drugs, operated, and subsequent supplied in Nashik, Mumbai, and Pune.
Meanwhile Days after Saki Naka police busted the
Rs 305-crore mephedrone racket on Saturday they arrested a supplier of raw materials and a technician were arrested from Nashik taking the total arrest to fourteen before arresting the kingpin Lalit Patil.
The suppliers were identified as Shivaji Shinde from Nashik, and the technician, Rohitkumar Chaudhary from Delhi,
It is learnt that the godown-turned-drug lab had been manufacturing mephedrone since December 2022 and the consignment sent to Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nashik.
