Sunil Kawale Jalna-based Maratha quota activist commits suicide at Bandra’s BKC
A rude shocking news comes to light of the suicide by Jalna-based Maratha quota activist Sunil Kawale on the wee hours of Thursday, 19 October at Bandra-Kurla-Complex, Bandra East.
According to Bandra Kherwadi Police Officials, they found a mobile phone and suicide note in his bag, in which Kawale has mentioned about his ‘sacrifice for the cause of Maratha reservation.’
In the suicide note, he has urged people to gather in Mumbai on 24 October, the day which happens to be the
“Maratha Reservation” Day, to fight for the cause and honour him by doing so.
Reportedly, Kawale was rushed to Sion hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The 4-page note by Kawale called for a big hunger strike to be initiated in Mumbai on Maratha Reservation Day on
24 October reading, however, please be peaceful. It is the question of the future of the kids of poor farmers of Maharashtra who need this reservation the most.
It is also mentioned in the suicide note that people for some days should forget about festivities, education, and their jobs to sit on this hunger strike. And hat his people needed to fight for this right of theirs despite being the majority.
In the concluding para, he has mentioned that he felt like laying his life down for the cause, so he did. Forgive him for this, but all should keep up the fight.
Notedly, Kawale, was an autorickshaw driver in his village and has been actively participating in the reservation movement after Jarange-Patil’s indefinite hunger strike. He hails from Jarange-Patil’s tehsil Ambad and has less than an acre of agricultural land.
Meanwhile, his family members, reveal that he chose to drive an auto rickshaw by giving up his job, so that he could participate in the reservation agitation.
According to Vinod Patil, one of the petitioners in the Maratha reservation case, the state government now should announce the time-bound program without giving them the reasons and problems.
CM Eknath Shinde and and the second Deputy CM Ajit Pawar should now clarify when and how they are going to give them the reservation as they have lost 48 Marathas who have either been killed or died by suicide.
However, Jarange Patil, activist advocating for the maratha reservation held the government responsible for Kawale’s death. He added that the government now must make an immediate announcement of the reservation to avoid any further fatalities. The state should announce the ex-gratia of ₹50 lakh to the next of kin and offer government job to family members of Kawale.
