Vidhu Vinod Chopra reveals distributors offered him Rs 10 lakh to kill Jackie Shroff instead of Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor in Parinda: ‘I was very poor’
Vidhu Vinod Chopra said that he did not agree to kill Jackie Shroff in the film Parinda because it would not deliver his message.
Renowned Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has directed his upcoming film 12th Fail, revealed that the 1989 film Parinda was a game changer for actors Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor.
In a recent interview, the director pointed out that the distributors weren’t in favour of Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit to be killed at the end of the movie and agreed to offer him Rs 10 lakh to kill Jackie instead.
Regardless of financial difficulties, Chopra declined the offer, and clarifies his decision.
In the midst of a recent interview, the filmmaker clarified that when he made Parinda, he was very poor.
The distributors saw the film and offered 10 lakh in cash.
They said, ‘This is for him and all he had to do was not to kill Anil and Madhuri, but, to kill Jackie Shroff’ and pooled in two lakh from each territory and hiked the price of each territory.
Viod refused saying that if he kills Jackie and make them (Anil and Madhuri) live.
In Parinda, Nana Patekar’s character Anna shoots and kills Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor in the the end. The film also featured Anupam Kher in a pivotal role.
Notedly, Parinda won several awards in India and was submitted as India’s entry to the 1990 Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category. However, it wasn’t nominated.
Meanwhile in 2015, Vinod Chopra remade Parinda in line with Hollywood film titled “Broken Horses”
