Afghanistan red-faced Babar Azam’s men in ICC World Cup 2023 contest in Chennai by thwarting them by 8 wickets. The match did look a one-sided affair.

Pak Team were left with no answer to Afghanistan’s exceptional run chase on
Monday in Chennai.

A domineering Afghanistan were in complete control of the proceedings in chasing a target of 283 posted by Pakistan at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Monday.

On the other hand Pakistan the appeared uninspired on the field. Their bowling attack had no answers to the Afghanistan onslaught by the openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87).

The two-sum put up 130 runs for the opening stand as the run chase swiftly turned into a one-sided affair.

Rahmat Shah (77*) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) carried on the attack to bring home a stunning, yet comfortable victory over Pakistan with 8 wickets and an over to spare.

It wouldn’t be out of place to quote that Pakistan were served one of the biggest upsets of this World Cup thus far, sending shock waves across. The fact that Babar Azam’s men had lost the earlier two contests against India and Australia respectively, this their third consecutive defeat in the tournament didn’t help the cause either.

It was a hard loss to swallow as disgruntled Pakistani fans minced no words while tearing apart their own team on microblogging website ‘X’ with some self-deprecating humour.

The fans congregated in large numbers as they never anticipated the defeat against Afghanistan which even
brought plenty of misery with it.

Afghanistan winning this match equals winning a WORLDCUP TROPHY for them.
