Ex-Pak Cricket Legend Wasim Akram claims marrying western woman brought positive transformation to his lifestyle
Wasim Akram was an exceptional cricketer and excelled in both batting and bowling.
Recently over an interview to a news channel, Akram opened up on the importance of proper sleep and its crucial role in an
an athlete’s performance and made comparisons to the significance of fitness and other factors.
He admitted to a lack of discipline regarding his sleep schedule in the midst of his childhood in Lahore.
Adding that there’s a saying, ‘Kids imitate what they see.’ So, when young in Lahore, he observed his cousins staying up and waking up late, and copied that. But as he grew older, he understood the significance of getting good sleep.
He further went on to articulate that getting married to a woman from a Western country brought positive transformations to his lifestyle. In Australia, dinner is at 6:30 in the evening.
Whereas In India and Pakistan, it’s common to have a shower at 9 pm. Peak hours in Australia are from 6 to 8 in the morning. Even street dogs in their area sleep at that time because they know nothing is happening amidst those hours.
However, former Indian pacer,
S Sreesanth voiced Akram’s sentiments on lifestyle discipline. Drawing from his experiences in Australia, Sreesanth emphasized the importance of getting adequate sleep to maintain a healthy bio-rhythm.
He agrees to Akram that getting good sleep is crucial because he experienced it in Australia. Dinner was at 6:30 pm. The best sleep to restore your bio-rhythm is around 6-8 hours.
He would like to request young players to take power naps on the team bus to games. Just put on earphones and sleep, because it’s important.
In a world where advanced sports science is widely available, both Akram and Sreesanth emphasize that despite technological advancements, proper sleep remains the foundational discipline every athlete must prioritize to allow their bodies the essential rest they deserve.
