Before his comeback as a director with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the film which won him immense love from audience and critics alike,
Karan Johar had directed
“Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” with
Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead with Shah Rukh in a cameo appearance as Tahir Taliyar Khan and he essayed the role as Aishwarya’s ex-husband in the film.

However, not many may be versed that it wasn’t Shah Rukh Khan as the original choice for Tahir’s character in the film.
SRK had stepped in as the actor whom Karan had originally cast backed out and he was none other than Saif Ali Khan.

Karan, reportedly wanted Saif to essay the role of Tahir, as he felt that Saif’s persona suited the role that he had written.
And even after he had agreed to be part of the project, he backed out as he had sustained an injury and had to undergo a treatment and thus couldn’t work out his dates at that last minute. Karan was left with no option, but to only think of none other than his brother Shah Rukh Khan. Given their old association SRK agreed to be part of the project.

This would be Karan Johar’s third film with Shah Rukh Khan as a director.

Infact, together they have delivered blockbuster hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum
It’s a very well-known fact in the entertainment industry that both Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan share a brotherly bond. Karan is always for anything for Shah Rukh Khan.
