Ace Choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant recalls Ranveer Singh had antenna.before Rocky aur Rani’s Dhindora Baje,

Ace Choreographer and
‘Kaj Ra Re’ fame Vaibhavi Merchant has worked on many iconic songs and with the biggest actors in the Hindi film industry. Her most recent work in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’s hit song “Dhindora Baje Re” saw Ranveer Singh and Tota Roy Chaudhary break into classical dance and wow the audience with their flawless dance moves.

In a recent interview, Vaibhavi explained that though the choreography of the song looked perfect, she, the film’s director Karan Johar and Ranveer were very nervous on pulling it off.

Elaborating on how she relaxed Karan and Ranveer’s anxiety over the choreography of the song, Vaibhavi revealed that when Karan challenged her and told her that in Dhindora Baje Re there is a sequence with Tota Roy Chaudhary and Ranveer Singh who break into classical Kathak dance and they are doing this on the iconic song Dola Re Dola, she was like ‘Hey Bhagwan, mar gayi.’
Ranveer had never performed a classical dance before and Tota had never danced to save his life.

She added, now that she was given the challenge already by her director and here she is. Ranveer is palpitating, he’s got anxiety calls, he’s calling, not she because he can’t call her and tell ‘mujhse nahi hoga’ because he knows her from the Band Baaja Baraat days.

She had to ensure that all his anxieties were calm and then Karan anxiously also called her saying, ‘We’ll keep it?’ She told Karan to just relax, now we are in this, leave it up to her and let her design it.

She remembers tying the gungroo for Ranveer for the first day, and she told see, she gave him a bit of a crash course… so this was an extensive eight days of dance and music.

In the midst of the interview, Vaibhavi also talked on the time, when she was not treated well by a debutant director who questioned her skills.

She said that this happened on her first ever song, which she doesn’t want to name who, but the first song she did, the director himself turned around and said, ‘Who do you think you are? You think you are someone great?’ And she heard that and she just was very humble and didn’t bother about it. She never let that impact on her because there was a certain amount of blessing.

She never had a vision then and was just doing a job on a set and she that she wants to do it to the best of her abilities.

She further added that he was also a debutant director, and wasn’t a maverick. It was his first film too but he thought he had that authority over her to kind of reduce her and put her down and tell her on her face that she is going to be a nobody, it just gave her the right push, you need that thrust.

That was her trigger point and she just, and very decently, not to prove a point, not verbatim, she always have done it silently and she believes in the power of silence.
