Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, Chairman Emeritus of the Oberoi Group, passed away today. His passing is a significant loss for the hospitality industry in India and overseas.
Saddenning news comes to the fore that Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi aka ‘Biki, Chairman Emeritus of the Oberoi Group, the doyen of Indian hospitality breathed his last on Tuesdsy, 14 morning assed away this morning, November 14, Tuesday, said a spokeswoman of the Oberoi Group. He was 94 years old.
The company in an official statement confirmed sad passing away of P.R.S. Oberoi. Chairman Emeritus earlier and that his passing away is a significant loss for The Oberoi Group and the hospitality industry in India and overseas.
As per reports from the company PRS Oberoi’s cremation will take place at the Bhagwanti Oberoi Charitable Trust, Oberoi Farm, Kapashera, at 4.00 pm today.
The company also informed that anyone from within the Oberoi Group as well as those who knew him, are welcome to attend and pay their respects. The Company also made a request that prayers be held for PRS Oberoi at our hotels and at the Corporate Office today,14

PRS Oberoi was the Executive Chairman of EIH Limited, the Flagship Company of The Oberoi Group, and the Chairman of Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, the major shareholder of EIH Limited.
Popularly known as the man who transformed the outlook of the hotel business in India, PRS Oberoi is credited with placing Oberoi hotels on the international luxury travelers map with the opening of several luxury hotels in important cities.

Born on 3rd February 1929, he is the son of the late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, the founder of The Oberoi Group. He was educated in India, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
He used to believe that people are the most valuable asset of any organization, and recognized the importance of quality in hospitality management, the company’s website read.
PRS Oberoi has been honoured with numerous awards including the Padma Vibhushan (India’s second highest civilian honor) in January 2008 for his exceptional service to the country, the Lifetime Achievement Award at ILTM, the ‘2010 Corporate Hotelier of the World award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Businessman of the Year 2008, the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Management, and others.

Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor called Biki Oberoi a true legend who perfected the art of detail and took the concept of intuitive hospitality to new levels.
He was to the Indian and Global hospitality industry what JRD Tata was to Indian and Global aviation. In the words of Alfred Lord Tennyson, The old order changeth yielding place to new – In Vikram and Arjun Oberoi, we have the two finest successors, true gentlemen, to script the next chapters. May Mr Oberoi’s soul rest in peace – it was a privilege to learn from him.”
Industrialist Anand Mahindra also expressed grief over Oberoi’s death, saying that his many achievements were never sufficiently recognized.
As per Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, Oberoi’s many accomplishments were never sufficiently recognized. He made ‘Oberoi’ a global byword for the Indian luxury hospitality experience and the first to put an Indian hotel on the very top of global rankings.
He added that he also rallied the group heroically but quietly post the 26/11 attack on their Mumbai flagship. He was a class act. Period. Om Shanti.
