Farah Khan recalls having learnt discipline from working in South cinema – reveals Nagarjuna hiked her fees for first time
Renowned Choreographer turned-director Farah Khan recalls her experience from working in Kollywood.
Farah set her foot in the Mecca of Hindi films Bollywood in Mumbai as a choreographer in and eventually worked in several South films.
In Bollywood, she made her debut as a choreographer with the 1992 film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and later went on to work in several films down south.
In a recent interview, Farah shared her work with veteran filmmakers Mani Ratnam and Priyadarshan.
This is precisely why the discipline and organisation skills have come from there.
She did Virasat with Priyadarshan. They are very fast and their style of working is so fast, as they don’t waste any time. They will quickly set the frame, the actors are also punctual and will come at 5 am for the shoot.
Then she worked a lot with Mani Ratnam and did Dil Se and before that Iruvar and Alai Payuthey, which is the south version of Saathiya.
They have different logic and working style. With us (Bollywood), everything is leisurely, but there it is like an army is working,” recalled Farah Khan.
Farah Khan also revealed that she had no idea who Ed Sheeran was and ‘had to ask Abhishek Bachchan’: ‘He wanted Bollywood music’
Going back to 1994-1995, Farah also recalled how Telugu star Nagarjuna was the first one to hike her fees.
Farah has done many songs with Nagarjuna and frankly speaking, it was Nagarjuna, the first person to have hiked fees. At that time per song, she must have charged around 10K or 15k in 1994-1995.
