Richa Chadha Gangs Of Wasseypur fame opens up on being offered to play Mother to Hrithik Roshan at 21
Actress Richa Chadha Gangs Of Wasseypur fame in her recent media interaction revealed that when she was just 21, she was offered a role of mother to Hrithik Roshan. This was post the post the success of Gangs Of Wasseypur which she cooly turned down.
The actress revealed that in her career, she has played varied roles but this is an opportunity she chose to let go. Hrithik was senior to her.
Richa Chadha went on to add that it’s unfair to older artists when youngers actors are offered to play senior characters in movies.
In the midst of the interview when she was asked if she was annoyed at the offer by the casting director, Richa shot back “Yes, because she was only 21 years old.
It seems someone had told him that she plays mother’s role nicely. So, without thinking, he just offered her the role. Ultimately, the actress who actually played that part is a very good artist. So she felt that it was wrong in casting young and attractive actors and ageing them.
She further added, that by offering such a role, the casting director is doing a disservice to a young actress and also taking away an older actor’s part already shrinking.
Richa Chadha made her debut in acting with film ‘Oye Luck! Lucky Oye’ in a supporting role. She got her breakthrough with the 2012 film ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ directed by Anurag Kashyap. In the film, she played the role of an older woman.
It was following the success of the film, she was offered to play the role of Hrithik’s mother.
Speaking further on what made her agree to play an older character in ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’, Richa opened up that “In Gangs of Wasseypur, she never felt she would be singled out. Everyone’s story was 30-40 years ahead. They didn’t put any spotlight on her. Call it our industry’s sexism or society’s sexism, they highlighted it. The truth is that Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi, Piyush Mishra, all of them had undergone ageing in that film.
On the work front, Richa Chadha was last seen in the film ‘Fukrey 3′ where she reprised the role of Bholi Punjaban. She will be next seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’.
