Udit Narayan turned 68 on December 1 opens up on his singing career
Udit makes it known that he has never sought for a limelight.
He forayed into singing 43 years ago. When he landed in Mumbai the ‘Mecca’ of Bollywood to be a singer, he had none in the city to give him a helping hand.
He got first singing assignment song on his own merit, and to his delight, his very first song “Mil Gaya Mil Gaya”was with the veteran Mohammed Rafi in the film Unees Bees.
Opening up on his first song, he said that first songs are like your first love. He remembers every detail. The song was composed by Rajesh Roshan and Usha Mangeshkar was also a part of that song. Very soon, he got to sing with the legend Lata Mangeshkar in, “Bade Dilwala”. The song was “Jeevan Ke Din Chote Sahi composed by the late genius Rahul Dev Burman.
Later on he got an opportunity to sing many hits with Lataji in “Dil To Pagal Hai” and “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” . So, he got a chance to work with the greatest musicians very early in his career. Aspiring towards excellence became a habit for him.
He also thanked his fans & well wishers for recognising 5th July as Udit Narayan day.
Music has no limits. After 70 years of singing and being accepted by the entire world, Lataji still wanted to better her singing and he learnt from her that there are no full stops in life. He wanta to sing better songs with a variety of music directors.
He believe in God and himself.
He has l not forgotten his humble beginnings, landing in Mumbai to in 1978 struggled for the next 10 years.
On the milestone songs in his career, Udit elaborated that
it was “Papa Kehte Hain, of course and he owes his career to that song. Jadoo Teri Nazar in Darr was another turning point, as was Ruk Jaa Oh Dil Deewane in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Udit is also very fond of Ghar Se Nikalti Hi from the film Papa Kehte Hain and Chand Chupa Badal Mein in Hum…Dil De Chuke Sanam.”
Talking about his son Aditya Narayan, he said that he was his only son. Adding that to have got a son like Aditya and a wife like Deepa is a blessing.
Now there is his granddaughter Tvisha and he says,
“World is complete.”
