Veteran actress Tanuja, mother of popular actress Kajol Devgn was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Sunday evening due to age-related issues. She is in ICU

A medical report reveals that
the actress is under observation and doing well. There’s nothing to worry about.

Tanuja Samarth, popularly recognised as Tanuja, has worked in several Hindi and Bengali films.

She is the daughter of filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth and actress Shobhna Samarth and has three sisters, including actress Nutan and one brother.

Tanuja married filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee in 1973, and has two daughters, actresses Kajol and Tanisha.

Tanuja started her film career with her older sister Nutan in Hamari Beti as Baby Tanuja. A decade later, she was cast in the film Chhabili directed by her mother, and had her sister Nutan, in the lead.

In 1961 famous director Kidar Sharma signed Tanuja for Hamari Yaad Aayegi as lead actress.

In mid-1960s, she started a parallel career in Bengali cinema in Kolkata. In Deya Neya she shared screen space with Uttam Kumar.

Her other Bengali movies has been Anthony-Firingee , Rajkumari Teen Bhuvaner Parey and Prothom Kadam Phool.

In 1967, Tanuja was nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the spy film Jewel Thief and in 1969, she was honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Paisa Ya Pyaar.

Tanuja is recognised for her performance in “Baharein Phir Bhi Ayengi”, “Jewel Thief”, “Haathi Mere Saathi” and “Mere Jeevan Sathi”.
