He added that he even reused sherwani from sister’s wedding at awards event
Abhishek Bachchan also recalled his career beginnings in the Hindi film industry, and how he was ‘spotted’ by director JP Dutta at an awards function after he was rejected by scores of directors over two years.
Adding that he’d returned to India from college in the United States to be with his father in the midst of difficult times since business had just collapsed – and at that time around, he started working as a production assistant and assistant director.
Abhishek also elaborated he always wanted to be a movie star and so, he met several directors, but none of them wanted to take on the responsibility of launching him as Amitabh Bachchan’s son.
Continuing he said that he and his friend decided to write their own script, but even that didn’t take off. One day, Amitabh invited Abhishek to join him at the Filmfare awards, which is where his life changed.
Abhishek made his acting debut with JP Dutta’s Refugee, opposite fellow debutante Kareena Kapoor.
In recent years, the actor has experimented with more realistic cinema, but said that he is rearing to return to old-school song-and-dance fare, or even a slapstick comedy. Abhishek was last seen in the sports drama Ghoomer, directed by R Balki and starring Saiyami Kher in the lead role.
