Recently over a media interaction, veteran actress Mumtaz shared her past collaboration with Raj Kapoor’s iconic film, Mera Naam Joker.
Revealing that initially though she was considered for the role of the trapeze artist Marina, ironically, her romantic involvement with Raj Kapoor’s brother, Shammi Kapoor, led to her replacement from the project.
As per Mumtaz, Raj Kapoor had her audition for Mera Naam Joker but later decided against casting her, expressing concerns over her wardrobe choices in the film.
Mumtaz quoted Raj Kapoor, stating that she will come to their house, and they don’t want her to wear such small clothes in the film. Thereafter, the character of Marina was portrayed by Russian actor Kseniya Ryabinkina.
Throwing light on her romance with Shammi Kapoor, Mumtaz revealed to a Pak newspaper that their brief relationship concluded when she refused his marriage proposal.
In an earlier media interaction Mumtaz emphasized her passionate affection for Shammi Kapoor but stated that it was too early for her to marry at the age of 17.
She expressed her aspirations to accomplish something in her career, while Shammi Kapoor wanted her to give up films.
Mumtaz shared that their parting was amicable and underscored that marrying Shammi Kapoor at the time wouldn’t have worked, as it would have left her with a perpetual regret.
