PM Modi visits Veerbhadra Temple Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday 16 January
Ahead of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 22 January, PM Modi embarked on a spiritual journey down south.
His first visit in Andhra Pradesh was to the Lepakshi Temple believed to be the site where Jatayu, the giant eagle, followed Goddess Sita after abducted by Ravan.
The dying Jatayu, having conveyed crucial information on Goddess Sita’s captivity, was granted ‘Moksha’, the divine liberation by Lord Ram in Lepakshi.
On his two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala PM Modi launches several development projects that includes the New Dry Dock and the International Ship Repair Facility at Cochin Shipyard Limited.
PM Modi on Wednesday will offer prayers at Guruvayur and Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami temples in Kerala.
It is learnt that the local authorities are also all set for the much-anticipated surge in visitors around the January 22 ceremony, implementing enhanced security measures, and making logistical arrangements for all attendees.
The idol of ‘Ram Lalla’ or infant Ram by Mysuru sculptor Arun Yogiraj has been selected for the Ram temple following a panel’s vote on three choices.
According to Ram Temple trust’s general secretary Champat Rai the Ram Lalla in black stone, sculpted by Yogiraj, was unanimously picked by a panel from idols carved by three sculptors.
