Throwback: When Lata Mangeshkar revealed she fasted with her family amidst the 2011 India Vs. Pakistan WC Semi-Final
Not many may be versed that the late Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar was a passionate supporter of the Indian cricket team. Notedly, she witnessed Kapil Dev-led India’s memorable victory in the 1983 World Cup at the Lord’s.
She harboured her own superstitions and one such practice was fasted to support the Indian team’s victory in the midst of the intense World Cup semifinal match against arch-rivals Pakistan in 2011.
Over an interview with a news agency, Lata Mangeshkar revealed that she had watched the entire match, and was very tense. Everyone in her family followed some kind of superstition when India was playing.
She, Meena, and Usha did not eat or drink anything amidst the match and were constantly praying for victory, and had dinner only after India emerged victorious.
Recognised as one of Hindi cinema’s finest playback singers, Mangeshkar embarked on her singing career in 1942 when she was just 13, lending her voice to more than 30,000 songs across various Indian languages.
