Twinkle Khanna shares on her relocating to London with daughter Nitara
Actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna, last year embarked on a new chapter in her life by pursuing higher education in her accompanied by her daughter Nitara.
In the midst of an an interview Twinkle recalled her insights into her experience of shifting base to London to navigate her challenges of academic life and to forge friendships in a new environment.
The actress revealed on the hurdles she encountered amidst the application process, disclosing that notwithstanding her impressive portfolio, she faced rejection from one of the five universities she applied to.
It was a big setback for her initially as it also left her disconsolate, but never deterred her spirit.
She recounted the amusing scenario of both her and her son Aarav applying to the same college, expressing mutual horror at the prospect of attending it together. Fortunately, Aarav secured his preferred choice, nullifying any potential awkwardness.
She went on to add that, strangely, her son Aarav and she had applied to the same college since both were studying liberal arts.
When they found that they were accepted to the same university, it left them horrified the thought of being on campus together. They made a pact that they will pretend not to know each other and hang out with their respective friends. Luckily, Aarav got his first choice and opted for that university.
Metamorphizing into student life in her 50s displayed its own set of challenges, particularly in the realm of socialising.
Twinkle while acknowledging the inherent difficulties of making friends at her age, credited her busy schedule to provide a sense of purpose and direction.
Elaborating on the same, she said that she knew a few people in London, but didn’t know them that well. It meant, however, that she could leave her old habits behind. So she determined to be a bit brazen on forming new friendships.
She went on to add that she was left with a year to complete her course, which was very hectic. She would start writing at 4.30 or 5am and then leave to the university.
With the volume of course submissions being high, she was left with no time to feel lonely because she had much work to do.
She revealed that she felt exactly the way she did when she went to boarding school which was very similar
Twinkle also made it known that she does ‘double the work’ at home, jokes that her children are ‘going to wind up in therapy’.
Regardless being occupied with work, Twinkle was worried if she would have to have lunch alone. But her problem was solved soon. She was even worried on who she would walk with in the corridors and who she would have lunch with.
She explained that when the professor assigned three of them with a presentation, they decided to have lunch together.
They quickly became friends, and from then on, she never ate lunch alone again and made a lot of new and good friends.
