Prithviraj Sukumaran prefers share in profits-no remuneration Akshay Kumar follows same strategy
In a recent interview, Aadujeevitham actor Prithviraj Sukumaran says he prefers a share in profits rather than remuneration for the films he does.
While in Hyderabad recently to promote his upcoming film Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life.
most popular and sought after actor in Tamil, Telugu and Tamil films, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed in an interview that he doesn’t prefer to receive remuneration for his films, but share in profits, adding that even Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar too doesn’t take any remuneration, only share in profits.
Although, Prithviraj has worked not just in Malayalam, but also in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industry, articulates that compared to other film industries, Mollywood cinema prioritises the film – prefers to allocate a major chunk of its budget to the film’s making rather than remuneration.
He also went on to say that, he doesn’t claim that the Malayalam film industry are superior to anybody.
But having worked in different industries, he thinks that Malayalam cinema traditionally has had the practice of ensuring that the largest chunk of the budget always goes towards making the film. He has been involved in other industries where the film is made, say for ₹75 cr, of which ₹55 cr is remuneration, but, traditionally, that hasn’t been the case.
He also went on to add that he doesn’t do films for a salary. He say no, let’s make the film the best possible way. He takes responsibility and holds himself accountable. If one of his films doesn’t make profits, he doesn’t get any money. But if it makes profits, he gets more than what his salary would’ve been. It helps because if a producer has money, he’s spending it to make the film. Even an actor of Akshay Kumar’s status works this way. When he produced a film with him (Selfiee), he said no salary.
On the work front Prithviraj will soon be seen in Blessy’s Malayalam film Aadujeevitham, which will be released in other languages as The Goat Life.
The film theatrically releases on March 28. He will also feature in Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil and Vilayath Buddha, apart from directing and acting in L2: Empuraan, the sequel of Mohanlal-starrer Lucifer. He will also be seen in the Hindi film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which will be released on April 10.
