Sukhwinder Singh confutes RGV’s claim he composed
Jai Ho, not AR Rahman
Reacting to Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s claim that he composed the ‘Jai Ho’ number for “Slumdog Millionaire”,
Singer Sukhwinder Singh blatantly denies having composed the Jai Ho number.
One never expected of a debate given that maestro AR Rahman has always been credited. But filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s sensational claims in a recent interview left the internet confused.
Infact Singer Sukhwinder Singh collaborated with composer AR Rahman for the award winning song Jai Ho.
Jai Ho was originally composed for filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s Salman Khan starrer Yuvvraaj.
Gulzar had penned this song and Rahman liked it. Then he composed it in his (Sukhwinder) studio in Juhu
He made Subhash Ghai listen to it and that he hadn’t sung the song till that point of time.
Ghai, he adds, while heaping praises on the song, he didn’t want it for his film and said that the character for whom he wanted a song had become naughty in the story, this song wasn’t fitting. He wanted a more masaledaar song. He told Rahman, but he insisted that this was nice. Sukhwinder too said ‘make minor’changes but Subhash wanted the entire song separately. Then he left, Rahman left. Sukhwinder was sad and requested Gulzar to stay back for 10-15 minutes. He asked why, to which he replied he has written it so well, let him try singing. Naachte kudte maine gaa diya. It was the same Jai Ho you listen to today. He sent it across to Rahman who in turn made it listen to Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman also kept his promise and gave another song to Subhash Ghai for Yuvvraaj.
