Abhay Aima, noted banker passes away at 63 in Mumbai.
Abhay Aima a celebrated banker bid adieu to the mortal world. According to his childhood friend and former finance minister, Haseeb Drabu, Aima was living on his own at his flat in Bandra, Mumbai. He was known for his work at HDFC Bank, where he gave 25 years of his life.
Abhay Aima, was a key figure in shaping HDFC Bank’s growth. He held the position of Group Head of Private Banking and was pivotal in developing the bank’s private banking and securities divisions.
His last rites will be performed at the Santacruz crematorium on April 28.

Drabu shared photos in the loving memory of his banker friend with caption, “My friend Aima, no more. Eid 2020 Bandra.”
Drabu on his X wrote that It’s with deep sorrow to inform of Abhay Aima’s sudden demise at his residence in Bandra at 4:10 PM on 27th April. He will always be remembered for his big heart, kindness, warmth, and the impact he had on all who knew him.
Collaborating with HDFC Bank in January 1995, Aima was a cornerstone in several of its most critical areas, including Private Banking, Equities, Third-Party Products, NRI Services, and the International Consumer Business. As a Director at HDFC Securities, he played a crucial role in steering the bank’s securities operations. as per official website.
His website added that over his more than 25-year tenure, Aima’s leadership not only spurred substantial turnarounds in the Global Consumer business but also managed extensive teams across India, the Middle East, Kenya, and Hong Kong, leaving a lasting imprint on the bank’s strategic direction.
