Jimmy Shergill was perplexed over Amitabh Bachchan’s sense of humour amidst their first meet at Yash Chopra’s house: ‘Abhi se haath katwane lag gaye’

Jimmy Shergill revealed that he was the final person to be cast in the film Mohabbatein, but Amitabh Bachchan’s humorous comment comforted him.

recalled his first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan.

It was at the residence of Yash Chopra Amitabh remarked that he’s quite the method actor and was referring to the scenes in the film.

In a media interaction Jimmy asserted that he was the last person locked in for Mohabbatein. These guys were training for six months, Uday (Uday Chopra), Jugal (Jugal Hansraj) and all the three girls. They were not able to finalise that one boy and maybe the role was written in his destiny.

When the role was assigned to him, he was six months behind these people and the training went on for next three months.

He continued, that when everything was finalised, a havan was organised at Yash uncle’s house. He remembers that he had fallen somewhere and his hand was injured and had 55 stitches and was under pressure that now he will not be able to do any training.

Adi (filmmaker Aditya Chopra) introduced him to Amitabh Bachchan and said ‘he is playing Karan.’ Amitabh looked at him and said that he is doing amazing method acting. Abhi se haath katwane lag gaye.’ For a second he (Jimmy)couldn’t understand what was happening.

Jimmy further went on to add that Amitabh was actually referring to the scenes in the film where his character Karan would often hurt his hand to get it bandaged by Preeti’s character. He showered praises on Amitabh’s sense of humour and said ‘it came without even thinking for a flash of a second.’

Mohabbatein also featured Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Shamita Shetty among others. The film was released in 2000.
